First Southern Baptist Church Of Westminster

We understand people come from different backgrounds, beliefs, walks of life, past experiences, and have come to their own conclusions of what they believe. We want you to  know what we stand for and even if you do not agree with all of our beliefs we want you to know we still have a place for you here.

Below are our core beliefs, the non negotiable truths God has revealed in Scripture for us to uphold and model.

What We Believe

Who is God?

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal parts of one God. Genesis 1:1, 26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of everyone by dying on the cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven and will return again to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make everyone aware of their need for Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. He also lives in every believer from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for daily living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18; Galatians 5:25

What is Humanity?

The Bible tells us that God created everything, including humanity, because it pleased Him to create for His glory. This means that it gave God pleasure and it brought Him glory to create man and woman. By doing so, He demonstrated His creative genius in making not only the universe, but its highest personal being...man. God also wanted man to help Him care for the beautiful world He created as a place for these special people to live. Genesis 1:26-28, 2:15, Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6, 59:1-2; Romans 3:23, 11:36; Colossians 1:21; Revelation 4:11

What is Salvation?

Salvation is God's gift to us through His Son, Jesus, as the way of being saved from our sinful existence. It is a gift because it cannot be earned. It is given by the grace and power of God, not by self-effort or good works. It is only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness that you can be saved from sin's penalty of death. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12, 14:6; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

What is the Bible?

The Bible  is God's Word to all humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the ultimate source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 12:6, 119:105, 160; Proverbs 30:5

What is Eternity?

Humanity was created to exist forever. But when sin entered the world death came as well. God designed us to spend eternity with Him. He saw the need for us to have a savior to deliver us from out sins so we don't have to spend eternity separated from Him. Eternal life begins the moment you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior through faith. Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. When your body withers from this world, you will either spend eternity in heaven or hell. Denial of God and His Son, Jesus, results in eternal separation spent in Hell. Acceptance of God and His Son results in eternal life and union with God in heaven. John 3:16, 5:11-13, 10:29; Romans 6:23; 1 John 2:25; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10-14; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Revelation 20:15
